Czech UN Youth Delegates

The aim of the Czech UN Youth Delegates Programme is to create a bridge between young Czechs and the United Nations. On the one hand, it ensures the representation of Czech youth in this organization and on the other hand it spreads awareness of it through the activities of young delegates in the Czech Republic.

The Programme is organized by the Czech Council of Children and Youth, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and Ministry of the Environment within framework of the UN Youth Delegate Programme.

Mandate of the Young Czech Delegate to the UN is given to a young person (age limit is 18 to 25 years) for a year and a half after he/she underwent two round selection procedure.

Starting from the 2024/25 term, there are three delegates – two young individuals who, as Czech UN Youth Delegates, have the opportunity to participate in meetings in Geneva or New York during their mandate. There, the delegates from various countries deliver speeches before the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. In their speeches, they focus on issues affecting young people both in their home countries and on a global scale.

The third delegate is the Czech UN Youth Climate Delegate, who specifically focuses on climate change issues. In addition to overlapping with the other two delegates on general topics such as the implementation of the SDGs and international cooperation, the Climate Youth Delegate also participates in specialized events related to climate change, such as climate conferences in Bonn or the COP summits.

Furthermore, according to their possibilities and interest and according to the possibilities of the Programme and its organizers, delegates participate in other events and meetings, where they represent not only the interests of young people but also deal with their own agenda, which accompanies them within their mandate.

The agenda is essentially topic selected by the delegates, it is related to the UN agenda and it is important, according to the delegates, to address it within the Czech Republic. These topics are always related to the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the Program, delegates already had the following agendas: Making non-formal education and leisure activities available to young people with disabilities or / Conceptual solutions for young people’s involvement in decision-making processes / Climate change / Disinformation, fake news and critical thinking. During their mandate, delegates also share their experience gained under the mandate and provide information on the UN and its related topics at schools or other meetings, whether students or the general public.
